Divisions in the Norwegian Physical Society until 16th June 2000
Board

The Norwegian Physical Society has 13 scientific divisions:
Acoustics Nuclear physics
Astrophysics Optics
Biophysics Particle physics
Data and instrumentation Petroleum physics
Condensed matter physics Plasma physics
General theoretical physics Education
Geo- and ionospheric physics

The purpose of each division is to strengthen contact between members with the same field of interest. Meetings, seminars and conferences are organized periodically for each division. NSF also provides stipends to physics students to travel to these conferences. The 'Education' division provides a platform for physics teachers and schools with a physics curriculum.

In 1989, a special division was created within NFS, "Network for Women in Physics". The goal of this division is to promote the participation of women in the field of physics and to provide valuable contacts and information between women with higher education and research interests in physics.
